Kinsale, Thurs 4th of Oct.
You see this is what it should be like. Regular readers will be aware of my aversion to long road trips so when a gig in Kinsale came up i wasn’t particularly enamoured. Until somebody mentioned Aer Arann that is.
So it was myself and Jason Byrne went and got all our jabs, took in a quick visit to foreign exchange, picked up some B&H and a six foot Toblerone in duty free and flew to Cork.
And it was wonderful. Flying Aer Arann was like going back to the seventies. The air hostess’s were all school teacher type Mammy’s. And I know there’s probably a more PC term that should be used instead of air hostess but definitely not in this case. Everyone on the plane was from the seventies as well which was great as it meant we were the best looking people on the plane because all the other passengers looked like they’d come straight from the Winning Streak studio.
So that’s it, I’m never driving anywhere again. I’ve been spoilt. The only gigs I’ll do now in Ireland are Knock, Galway, Sligo and of course Farranfore.
The gig in Kinsale was in The Blue Haven Hotel and hopefully will be the first of many there. The lovely man who owns the hotel picked us from the airport in a Porsche Cayenne. Which was great because it meant I didn’t feel guilty about my exorbitant fee.
The gig that night truly was fantastic. The only problem with the whole thing is we were so well looked after by Ciaran and his staff that we didn’t manage to get outside the door of the hotel and have a look around Kinsale. They kept pouring food and drink down our necks and then after breakfast the next morning it was straight back in the Porsche and back to the airport. Actually now that I think of it they obviously couldn’t wait to see the back of us.
The Blue Haven is a great place to stay with the kind of staff that can actually make the difference between a shitty stay and a great night. Or that could be just a little plug to say thanks for all the food and drink… There’s also the small matter of my fee.
