Drogheda, Thurs 11th Oct by Eric Lalor

I arrived in Drogheda to be told that the gig was being put back till 9.30pm, half an hour later than planned, but ticket sales were good and they expected a few walk ups. The venue tonight is actually called that,The Venue and it’s based in McHugh’s. What a fine room it is too for comedy. They have chairs, tables, candles and there’s even a bar!
Tonight on the Lisa Richards comedy tour, the Delamere juggernaut rolls into town. Neil is one of the most recognizable faces on Irish TV. He is our Trevor McDonald, of that there is no doubt, except Neil is white and doesn’t read the national news. In the grand scheme of things in Irish comedy, Neil is now in the Premiership, me the MC/Support act?, Vauxhall Conference, but with aspirations to do better. And maybe should do better, BUT!! I digress.
The room fills quickly and The Del Boy introduces me to the stage and a hearty Drogheda welcome from the packed crowd. There are a lot of fans of The Panel in tonight. I suppose we can call them Panelists. It’s so bright on stage. The lights are blinding and by that I mean they were actually making me feel blind as I could not see anything, not, ‘Blimey mate ! Them lights is blindin’!! How much do you want for them’. I enjoyed the gig and closed the first half to a nice reaction from the crowd. Lovely people the Drogheda-Ardee massif. Really good comedy crowd.
Jumped back on the stage to introduce Neil to the stage in the second half and the Panelists went nuts. That is, they applauded, whistled and cheered very enthusiastically, not that they were on valium, self harming, wearing straight jackets or any of that malarkey. The man can do no wrong and tonight Drogheda sampled why. I got home in time for bed. Another 5 minutes later and I would’ve been grounded. Phew! I listened to The Stone
Roses all the way home and it made me smile. I feckin love that album, their first one, the classic, the Revolver of my time, my generation. I am the resurrection and I am the one.
