Owen O'Neill
A regular performer at the Smithwick’s Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Owen O’Neill is a comedian, writer, actor and poet born in Co Tyrone and educated at Queens University Belfast.
He is an annual visitor to the Edinburgh Festival where he has produced and directed 7 plays which have won two Fringe first awards 1998-99 and a Perrier nomination in 1995, the Edinburgh Critics award for best new play in 1996 and the LWT Writers award for best comedy in 1997. ‘Volcano Dancing’ his new book of poetry and extracts from his one-man plays is currently on sale. He was recently commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to adapt and star in six of his stage plays, which were transmitted in April 06
He made his TV debut on Saturday Live in 1985 and has since performed on numerous TV shows including ‘The Empire Laughs back’ for BBC Northern Ireland and his own TV Stand-up special for the BBC. He has written and presented some of the travelogue series for Channel 4. In New York he has guested twice on the Conan O’Brien show and performed his award winning one-man play ‘It was Henry Fonda’s fault’ at the West Beth theatre in Greenwich Village. He has appeared several times at the Just for laughs festival in Montreal.
